Event poster
Jokes my father tells was performed by a professional actor throughout the opening night of the collaborative exhibition, Rican/Struction organized by Abraham Cruzvillegas at Galería Agustina Ferreyra in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Jokes my father tells
are a series of jokes translated into spanish and told to passerby and gallery visitors throughout the opening night. The selected
jokes were transcribed from the retelling by a white middle class Italian American male and showcase the difficulties,
miscommunications, ignorance, and lack of desire to understand something other (race, gender, class, sex, and culture). Jokes
are never told verbatim, and are constantly warping with every retelling, recreation, and translation depending on the context,
place and performer.
